Is Obesity Suicide...
Clearly, being overweight or obese is bad for your health, but, is it suicide? You decide. Check out these ads from This is my book:
They’re certainly disturbing, but could these ads be considered a public service campaign or, as Jim Foster of Diet Blog suggest, something else—any thoughts?

Hey Gerry:)!
I hope these pictures aren't considered a public service!!! Enlarge the picture and read the fine print along side the words "OBESITY IS SUICIDE"...the pictures are promoting bariatric surgery as a "help" for obesity!!!...I think you need to post some pictures similiar in style BUT promoting ETL as the help/answer our society needs in order to wipe out obesity:)!!!!
Hey Rebecca-
I know they're for bariatric surgery, I just ignored that part.
Here's Dr. Fuhrman on weight-loss surgery:

These ads are deplorable. I say this as someone who has struggled (and finally accepted) their weight, and as someone who has struggled with depression.
Suicide is serious business. A weight problem is nothing compared to the desire to end it all. (In extreme cases, the shame of societies view of people who are overweight can lead to suicide. Real suicide.)
I think you are missing the point. When we indulge in unhealthy foods and lifestyles, on go the pounds and up go chances of premature death. We know this but do it anyway i.e. akin to committing suicide. Nothing to do with depression

I must respectfully disagree, Norbert. The main difference is suicide's immediacy. Suicide prevention is about protecting someone who is very vulnerable from doing something you can't take back. However, weight loss is a marathon, and it's not all or nothing.
I wrote more here:

Obviously it's a publicitary compaign, because it was made by Notherm Bariatric Surgery Institute to promove bariatric surgery. So they are happy if everyone thinks that obesity is suicide and run to their institute for no be kiilled by themselves.
Don't you think the same?
Yes, Obesity is suicide. Why are you spending so much money that people can lose weight ... While you can do it!
I know it's hard ... and some people can not do .. but surgery should be a last option. I'd rather spend my money doing something for those people who can not help the conditions or diseases that ... I agree with your choices of obesity.
