Comments from the Six Week Holiday Challenge

Wow, it seems like just yesterday we were launching the Six Week Holiday Challenge, and here it is . . . a week into 2011 already!  Between facebook, the member center of, and Disease Proof, it’s exciting to read the many comments that have come in from those whose lives have been radically changed by the challenge. I think it gave all of us the necessary awareness, focus, and inertia to establish new and healthy holiday traditions for the rest of our lives.

The change of one is a transformation; the change of many is a revolution. While most of the nation gorged on disease promoting foods and became even sicker, we can honestly say, based on the flood of posts and comments, that we truly did experience an exciting and unprecedented health revolution during the holidays!  Decadent holiday binge eating, and resulting bloating and blues, are now traditions of the past for many!

Enjoy reading a few of those comments . . . . .

  • I have lost a total of 15 lbs. I'm sleeping better and exercising more. I feel so grateful to be improving my health during what could have been a treacherous (health wise) season.    -Marie
  • Down 16.5 pounds and 2” off waist lost! Yeah!    -Mael
  • I’ve been diagnosed with inflammatory arthritis. Before I started the challenge all of my joints were stiff, and I was in a state of constant flare.  My knees felt like there were glass shards in them. Now I only have the stiffness in the morning, and the feeling of glass in my knees is gone and the flaring has calmed down tremendously.   -Christine
  • I lost 5 lbs during the holidays when I normally would’ve gained 5 lbs. I feel much more energetic and can think more clearly. My skin is much clearer and no longer extremely dry, and my hair feels healthier and stronger. My husband said that I seem happier and nicer, and it’s gotten easier for me to just say, “No thank you” to SAD foods.  I definitely prefer ETL foods over SAD foods now.    -Katie
  • I cut my Topomax (migraine medication) in half, and I’ve stopped using antibiotic acne cream. I’ve also dropped from 140 lbs to 129 lbs and feel great!    -V
  • I weighed 177 pounds about 3 weeks ago and now I weigh 160.  My blood sugars are coming down, and I feel better with more energy.   -Amy
  • I’ve lost 10 lbs so far, but more importantly, I feel great!  I have no more acid reflux, and I’m more comfortable in my clothes.  My wife called me a ‘sexy man’ last night!  Now that’s some success to share!   -Tom
  • My aches and pains are gone, and for the most part my uncontrollable sugar urges are gone. Most importantly my mood is good, I’m loving the winter, my skin glows, and I love the way I look!   -Diana
  • Since starting the challenge I’m down 13 pounds, and I can run/walk intervals for 40min and do 1 hour spinning classes. AND I just found out that I’m pregnant! Thank you so much for starting this challenge, because it has given me the start that I needed, and now a great start to the most healthiest pregnancy EVER!   -A
  • In November, 2010, I discovered Dr. Fuhrman, his wonderful book, Eat to Live, and I jumped on-board the Six Week Holiday Challenge. Friends have started commenting on my slimmer physique and I now have more energy than I know what to do with.   -Carrie
  • I started the Six Week Holiday Challenge on November 20th weighing 311.3 pounds, and now I weigh 282.5 pounds.  My blood pressure was 146/86 and now it’s 121/71. My former acid reflux and swollen feet are gone, and I sleep better and have lots more energy. Arthritis in my knees has decreased significantly, and I’ve lost so much fluid that I was excited to see that I actually have ankles again!  There are nine of us in my family strictly following ETL now; ranging in ages 3 to 65. Everyone has had a reduction in symptoms / illnesses. My dad’s blood pressure has dropped from 150/90 to 127/77 ~ the best he’s had in 15 years!   -Peta
  • I’ve dropped ten pounds over the holiday challenge, starting a week before Thanksgiving and encompassing Christmas and New Year's Eve too! Plus, we had a birthday in our family to add in as well, and a lot of parties and things. Ten pounds lost over all that time is pretty satisfying!     -Cindy
  • I cannot believe how well I feel! The weight seems to be coming off easily and my appetite is under excellent control; this is the aspect of dieting that has NEVER allowed me to keep my weight off.     -tsmoon

For those reading about the Six Week Holiday Challenge for the first time, or couldn’t participate in it during the holidays, it’s never too late to earn health back. Commit to following the six week plan as outlined in Eat to Live and you will be feeling amazingly great in six weeks also! Go for it and contend for optimal health today!

What an inspiring post! I wish everyone who participated the best in continuing to follow the plan for life, not seeing it as a temporary thing to get the weight off and then go back to their former way of eating. Going back just means gaining back.

My wife and I went on the 6 week challenge. I lost 15 lbs and she lost 11. We both feel so much better. No more afternoon naps for me, except the odd recreational one. I have much more energy and the swelling my legs is significantly reduced. We are hooked and plan to continue on. My wife even bought us a Vitamix for Christmas. The spinach smoothies are excellent and so easy. "Kale is the new steak"!!!

What did your average meals look like? What did you have for break, lunch and dinner?

Chris - January 7, 2011 2:39 PM

The best thing I got out of the challenge was to break my food rut and try new things. I enjoyed getting the recipes sent each day. I've tried more new recipes in the past 2 months than the past 2 years. I served the healthy choc cake and the gingerbread cake, both with the nut "icing" sauce. Wow. We eat gluten free, so I just substituted brown rice flour and almond meal instead of wheat flour. I'm also on Dr Furhamn's autoimmune protocol, so was glad to see desserts that can be delicious with no oil or salt. Even the SAD guests loved it!

I never got recipes even though I signed up for the challenge. I emailed the website about it, too. How did people get recipes sent to them?

Deana Ferreri, Ph.D. - January 7, 2011 5:44 PM

did you make sure they didn't end up in your Spam folder?

Katherine Sychra - January 7, 2011 7:26 PM

Although I didn't sign up for the challenge, I did participate and lost 5 pounds (down to 124), something I had not been able to do before taking on the challenge. Many, many thanks to Dr. Fuhrman and everyone else who made this possible!!!

I too would love to receive the recipes -- how can I have them sent to my email?

Emily Boller - January 7, 2011 8:28 PM

Congratulations Bob (and wife), Chris, and Katherine for participating in the holiday challenge and noticing improvements in weight and health and/or discovering and making new, favorite recipes!

Continue the great job for 2011, 2012, 2013 . . . and for life! :)

I enjoyed participation and changing my diet. I didn't lose much weight (about 2 lbs I think) but I am not able to exercise due to extreme pain in legs (reason unknown). However I have had one positive result that I hope I never have to go through again, and i won't with the added veggies and less meat/dairy--my constipation has completely disappeared along with the pain of IBS--I am so grateful. Yeah for the green leafies!! I'm not worried about overdosing on Vitamin K (I have cardiovascular problems I am trying to reverse) because it is natural and you need it. The recipes have been great. This is the new way now for me to eat.

hang in there, more changes coming and you see less pain and more gain the longer you are on the ETL program. I congratulate you on the changes all ready. Best of luck and stay focus!

I stumbled upon this blog by accident, but I am incredibly glad I did.

I didn't know it, but I too was apart of the six-week holiday challenge as I have been battling my office's constant flood of pastries and sweets. But despite this, my co-worker has told me that she is quite proud of me that I have been avoiding about 90% of these sweets and sure enough, I have also lost 5lbs since the advent of the holidays.

Here's to a new blog that I'd like to check daily!

Wonderful news about all that took on Dr. Fuhrmans challenge. He was interviewed by Tina Marie & Todd Alan on just when he first began the challenge and I must say it was nice to hear the direct approach about our eating habits..congratulations to all who lost weight and are feeling healthier. I personally have lost 11 lbs through the holidays and my big ah ha moment was I realized while listening to his interview that I was a food addict. I was stunned, and did not know what to do. Then I was told by one of the hosts on the show " well, you were ready to see and hear that, now what are you going to with it?" since then I go through eat day one step at a time and make healthier choices. I can actually feel whether I am hungry or not and not doing the emotional eating that I was doing. Thank you so much!

I started the challenge the day after Thanksgiving. I've lost 10lbs and feel so much better already, down from 202 to 192. I joined a new gym and feels so much more motivated to exercise now. I really enjoyed getting the receipes everyday. I've made most of them. My husband said he hit rock bottom shortly after Xmas. He told me he finally weighed himself-315#. He's lost 17# so far and I've never seen him so excited about eating healthy food. I really believe that we are both going to do it this time. Thank you so much.
