Unrefined Plant Food Consumption vs. The Killer Diseases

I insist that our low consumption of unrefined plant foods is largely responsible for our dismal mortality statistics. Most of us perish prematurely as a result of our dietary folly.

Populations with low death rates from the major killer diseases—populations that almost never have overweight members—consume more than 75 percent of their calories from unrefined plant substances. This is at least ten times more than what the average American consumes.

I could not find the 1961-99 stats, but looked at the 2001-2003 % share of dietary components at FAO.org. Iceland (62.7%)is SADdest of 169 countries; the USA (61.8%) is in second place, when I add up % of oil+ animal products + sugar and sweets. Canada is #14 with 57.4%.

The USA takes in 8.9% roots, tubers, fruits, vegetables and pulses (all plants excluding grain). Canada gets 11.6%.

Uganda eats in a whopping 20.7% of calories from fruits and veggies, 23.8% from roots and tubers and 8.7% from pulses.

I'd like to see that chart expanded to include all major nations. Is that possible?

Not including nations such as the UK, Germany, France, Japan and China (as examples) kind-of lessens its impact somewhat, though I have no doubt the correlation is true. Others might not find it as convincing.
