Booze Shrinks the Brain!

Alcohol, without it many of us would NEVER attract a mate, myself included! But booze can really mess you up. A recent study determined alcohol DISTORTS the brain’s reaction to images and makes us less fearful. Uh, duh!

And now, new research in the Archives of Neurology claims excess drinking may actually SHRINK the brain; speeding up the natural age-related reduction of brain volume (about 1.9% per decade). Even low levels of drinking are risky; HealthDay News reports.

Having a few drinks might boost your social life, but it HARMS your health! According to Dr. Fuhrman, alcohol has been linked to both breast cancer and atrial fibrillation and red wine isn't heart healthy either.

I don't find alcohol "attractive", and I don't think people fully comprehend the risks of alcohol, or they will not be drinking it.

Unfortunately, it's not as simple as a "visual impairment" - "Don't drink and drive". Alcohol will fatten up the liver too and lead to cirrhosis, which is irreversible. The only viable solution then is a liver transplant, which is in excess of $100k. When someone is on a liver transplant, that person needs to take a lifetime supply of expensive immunosuppressive drugs to make that "artificial kidney" work. At the same time that person will also be combating with a lifetime of infection after infection after infection...

Why do you think alcohol will attract a mat? If it does it will not be a woman who is into healthy living. So alcohol would attract an incompatable mate.

Ethyl alcohol kills the cells of the brain and central nervous system, and the body does not replace them when they're gone. So the alcoholic eventually runs out of brain and spinal cord cells, and becomes in effect mentally retarded and physically debilitated.

Good article.

I'm interested to know: Dr Fuhrman uses nutrition and fasting to not only stop but reverse chronic disease that standard medicine cannot. Could the Dr. use his methods to treat and reverse someone with alcohol-induced hepatitis or cirrhosis of the liver?

How about moderation? Studies have shown 1 serving a wine 2-3 days has elevated HDL and is actually good for you. If you drink more than a glass a day I can see this appling... People need to read in defense of food. Why are the french fat, unhealthy looking, yet live loner than americans and drink and eat more then we do? Because of moderation and they enjoy the food not shovel it down in 30mins like we do in america.
