The supermarket is a treacherous place. Plenty of fruits and veggies, but wall to wall candy, cookies, bacon bits, chips and soft drinks too. So, when shopping, resist temptation. Try leaving kids at home, shoppers with kids buy 40% more groceries and avoid big shopping carts, people buy 30% more stuff when pushing around a giant cart; from Parade Magazine.

I make a list every time I hit the grocery stores. If it isn't on the list, I think pretty hard about why I am adding the item (often, it's something I simply forgot to add to the list!).

I remember that "sorry only one can to a customer" pitch being part of a joke in a cartoon in Mad Magazine, back in the sixties!

Remember also the simple advice to eat before shopping, it will help prevent cravings for all that meaty cheesy chocolaty salty crunchy chewy stuff.

The rule I use while shopping with my niece and nephew is they can have anything they want, as long as they can spell all of the ingredients.
