Eat Local Wisconsin!

September 5th through the 14th the state of Wisconsin is challenging its citizens to spend 10% of their grocery budget on local food.

Interested cheese-heads should aim to purchase foods produced within a 100-mile radius of where they live.

The goal of the Wisconsin Eat Local Challenge is to make people "more mindful of their choices," Anne Steinberg, a co-founder last year of the Milwaukee Eat Local Challenge, told The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, "To think about things like this so you can get the best food, the food that's best for the environment and that will build our local community the best."

According to the challenge website, eating locally helps reduce the miles your food travels and supports local farmers and community supported agriculture. Perfect for our increasingly greener society!

I think it's a great idea.

Ten percent is not hard- at least in the growing season. We are probably doing more than that now with the CSA food. But I still like mangoes. bananas and yes avocados. They don't grow here.
